Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap and Deadline have late-night TV’s back. Always.

The entertainment sites never fact-check the liberal talkers, nor do they wonder why so many of their yuks are aimed at one party. That’s especially true when the other party holds the White House for four full years.

The assembled sites also regurgitate their gags regularly. Call it a symbiotic relationship.

That status came to an abrupt stop this week, at least with The Hollywood Reporter.

The site tallied up its “winners and losers” of 2024, including Joe Rogan (Winner) and Kevin Costner (loser). The essay poked fun at the celebrity conga line that christened Vice President Kamala Harris the brat queen only to watch her stumble on Election Day.

At the same time THR turned on Team Late-Night, dubbing them runner-up “losers.”

Last Night Hosts. Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver and Stephen Colbert. Not sure when late-night hosts became the self-appointed moral guardians of our republic, but there was a lot of self-righteousness on display in this trio’s pre-election episodes.

It’s odd that the article left out Seth Meyers over at NBC, but its point is well made. These hosts deliver more clapter than comedy. Their political lectures sound like outtakes from a Joy Reid telecast over at MSNBC.

Kimmel literally cried over Trump’s re-election victory, and laughs were few and far between that night.

Par for the course, really.

The problem with THR’s takedown? It helped make their self-righteousness a reality. THR, like the aforementioned news platforms, regularly applaud late-night hosts for their political stands. Their coverage honors and supports their activism.

When Kimmel and Colbert raised money for then-candidate President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign those sites didn’t criticize them.

These court jesters lost all semblance of neutrality, and the THRs of the world stood down.

So bravo for calling out their propaganda. Just know it played a sizable role in making it happen.
