Kimmel’s Free Speech Brigade Silent Over Bari Weiss Cancellation

It’s happening again, but this time the target isn’t a conservative firebrand like Milo or Candace Owens.

Center-Left journalist Bari Weiss was scheduled to speak at University of California-Los Angeles this month, but the CBS News chief bowed out.

Why?

Protests and violent threats forced her hand, according to a report.

UCLA’s associate vice chancellor Steve Lurie told the Los Angeles Times that the university had been prepared to “implement a comprehensive security plan for this event” and that it “developed in coordination with campus safety and external law enforcement partners.”

Sound familiar? It should.

For years, conservative speakers have been harassed, attacked and silenced on college campuses nationwide.

These weren’t peaceful protests but attempts to either silence the speakers or cause them physical harm.

Again and again and again.

And that doesn’t include other threats facing artists like Michael Rapaport and theatrical producers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElinhinney.

Did Hollywood rise up en masse to decry these free speech attacks? No.

Did Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, late-night hosts who claim President Donald Trump curtailed their free speech rights, rush to their defense?

No.

Nor will either far-Left host invite Weiss onto their programs to hear her side of the story. Weiss is considered the “enemy” to the progressive Left for trying to save CBS News from its extreme liberal bias. For that, she must be ostracized if not punished directly.

So there’s little interest in a late-night comic taking her side, either via a “truth-to-power” monologue or a seat on their respective couches.

And it gets worse.

Some of the threats against Weiss are based on her pro-Israel stance. It’s the latest example of violent antisemitism coarsing through university culture will little pushback from the Left.

Need more outrageous details?

Some university members decried Weiss’s slated appearance. Yes, a university where free speech should reign supreme employs workers who don’t want Weiss to be heard.

One employee threatened to quit if Weiss actually spoke on campus.

So where is Kimmel? The ACLU? Jon Stewart? John Oliver?

Silent. Again. They’ll only weigh in if they think they can use free speech as a cudgel against a certain two-term president.
