Meta has announced that Instagram will notify parents if supervised teens repeatedly search for suicide or self-harm related terms within a short period. The feature will roll out next week in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, with other regions to follow. Alerts will be sent via email, text, WhatsApp, or in-app notifications and include expert resources. Meta said it analysed search behaviour to set alert thresholds and plans similar parental notifications for certain teen interactions with its AI tools later this year.
