AST SpaceMobile Inc and AT&T have successfully completed a 5G call between Hawaii and Spain using a smartphone and the company’s satellite. This achievement marks a significant advancement in providing connectivity to areas where wireless networks are unavailable. AST SpaceMobile is developing a space-based cell network accessible by standard mobile phones, and this successful test brings them closer to their goal. Other companies involved in this technology include Nokia and Vodafone. The team achieved a download data speed of 14Mbps during the call, breaking their previous record for space-based cellular broadband.
